Rotten Post Flip
Available
This piece I kept around as a water and infestation damage study. It's part of an old fence post, remarkably well preserved considering there was no treatment of the wood at all. The concrete base was sandblasted to reveal the shattered windshield glass added to the aggregate. The piece is Red Cedar,1'wide,6'tall.
Infrastructure
Available
This and it's sister piece "Cedar Post Revealed" were from the same section of a Red Cedar signpost on a friends farm. This series was a study of the functional structure of trees, revealing the xylem and flowum components readily apparent in this cedar species. Inspired by a dream I had where I dipped a log into a vat of acid, and upon extracting it saw roughly this image. The re bar protruding from the base(concrete with windshield glass as aggrigate)into the piece was liberated from the demolished Lee bridge over the James river. The piece is 1' wide and 5' tall.
Dentist's Study
Available
In dentist school, they have rows of teeth embedded in wax to teach students. This was found in an old VCU classroom, in a building designated for demolition.
China Street Trolly Trak
Sold
This piece was a part of the old city trolley system(circa 1883). It was exposed when a flash flood from hurricane Gaston toppled a retaining wall in Hollywood cemetery. A city worker wrenched the track while extracting it with his backhoe, twisting it until the brittle pot metal snapped. I liberated from the debris piled one Sunday morning with my blow torch. The base is concrete, sandblasted to reveal the shattered windshield glass added to the aggregate. The piece is 1'wide,and 7'tall.
