RICHARD DILWORTH - SCULPTOR

About Richard Dilworth, Sculptor

About

Born and raised in Richmond, VA, I have lived in Oregon Hill since 1988. After graduating from St. Christopher's School, I attended East Carolina University.

Over the years, I've renovated several houses in Richmond's historic districts. I draw a great deal of satisfaction from seeing a neglected treasure saved by renovation. After renovating my own home, I wanted to furnish it with artwork, but all the things I liked were more expensive than I could afford. Doing the sculpture myself became an exciting and fulfilling process.

After teaching myself how to weld, I designed and built a furnace and kiln, and slowly acquired the tools and machinery required to produce unique pieces.

My inspiration often comes from the outdoors. I enjoy fishing, camping, and any activity that involves my two dogs. I sculpt with any organic medium I find stimulating and have achieved proficiency in many sculpture skills such as low temperature casting and free pouring, woodcarving and sandblasting, and associated issues related to creating unique sculpture through attaching dissimilar materials.

My backyard was home to my small shop/studio until recently when I rented warehouse space to gain the required room for larger scale work planned for an upcoming sculpture series. Today, my home is my gallery and I am pleased to welcome anyone interested in seeing my work.

Enjoy browsing my online sculpture gallery and contact me to see my work the next time you're in the Oregon Hill area.
